Yes, that is gasoline that Brandon Lee smells in the film The Crow. The scene where he says that line is from the shooting rehearsal of the rooftop scene where Eric Draven (played by Brandon Lee) is shot and killed by Funboy (played by Michael Massee).
During the rehearsal, a dummy was supposed to be used for the close-up shots of Lee being shot. However, a dummy was not available at the time, so a real gun was used with blanks. Unfortunately, a piece of wadding from one of the blanks was lodged in the barrel of the gun. When the gun was fired during the rehearsal, the wadding was forced out of the barrel and into Lee’s abdomen.
Lee was rushed to the hospital, but he died from his injuries several hours later. The production of The Crow was halted, but it was eventually completed using body doubles and CGI.
The line “Is that gasoline I smell?” is a reference to the fact that Lee’s character is covered in gasoline when he is shot. The gasoline is what ignites and burns his body.
The death of Brandon Lee was a tragedy, but it also led to stricter safety regulations on movie sets. Today, there are many more safety protocols in place to prevent similar accidents from happening
