Roza Shanina was a Soviet sniper during World War II. She was born on April 3, 1924, in the village of Yedma, Arkhangelsk Oblast, Russia. Roza Shanina was one of the few female snipers in the Soviet Army, and she is credited with 59 confirmed kills. She joined the army in 1943 and was assigned to the 184th Rifle Division. Roza Shanina was deployed to the front lines, where she quickly proved her marksmanship skills. She was wounded twice in battle but returned to the front lines both times. Roza Shanina died in January 1945, at the age of 20, during the East Prussian Offensive. She was posthumously awarded the Order of Glory, 3rd Class, for her service.
