The Punisher is a fictional antihero character appearing in comic books published by Marvel Comics. The character was created by writer Gerry Conway and artists John Romita Sr. and Ross Andru, with first appearance in The Amazing Spider-Man #129 in February 1974. The Punisher’s real name is Frank Castle, a former Marine Corps sniper and Special Forces operative who becomes a vigilante after the murder of his family by criminals. He wages a one-man war on crime, using his military training and a vast array of weapons to battle criminals and the underworld. The character has appeared in numerous comic book series, as well as in several films, television shows, and video games.
