Padoru Padoru is a short bonus video for the PSP RPG Fate/Extra released back in 2010. Nero spins on the ice dressed as Santa and sings a parody of Jingle Bells, which ends with the words padoru padoru – an imitation of the sound of deer hooves.
The clip first appeared on YouTube in 2011, but gained meme popularity only 5 years later, when an hour-long version of the video appeared.
Since then, the meme began to circulate around the world of the Internet. It is not surprising – in addition to being tied to a holiday loved by many, it works on several levels.
Firstly, there is a simple and bright visual that can be easily inserted into a different context or fake another character under it. Nero is also spinning there, but it looks just charming.
Secondly, it is also musical, which allows you to make mini-covers and remixes.
Thirdly, the video sequence is built in a convenient way, according to which you can create your own “edits”.
Fourthly, this is a cute anime girl, and even from Fate (it is noteworthy that Extra came out even before the appearance of Fate / Grand Order and the transformation of the universe into a popular gacha).
Fifth, each of the past points in the meme is both simple, recognizable and fun.
As a result, even Crazy Frog refers to Padoru Padoru in his Twitter account. Wintertime is now called the padoru season, and every year since 2016 around Christmas, Google has seen a huge jump in searches for the word padoru.
