Merida is the main protagonist in the 2012 Disney/Pixar animated movie “Brave.” She is the headstrong and adventurous princess of the Scottish clan DunBroch, who resists her mother’s attempts to mold her into a proper royal lady. Merida is skilled in archery and horse riding, and she dreams of living a life of freedom and adventure outside of the castle walls.
When Merida defies tradition and refuses to marry one of the suitors chosen by her parents, she inadvertently sets off a chain of events that endangers her family and her kingdom. Along with her mother, Queen Elinor, Merida must learn to communicate and understand each other in order to break the curse that has befallen her family.
Merida is known for her distinctive curly red hair, her feisty personality, and her strong will. Her character has been praised for subverting the traditional Disney princess archetype, as she is not defined by her love interest and is instead focused on her own goals and desires.
