Maleficent is a fictional character and the main antagonist in Disney’s 1959 animated film Sleeping Beauty. She is a powerful fairy with a penchant for evil, and is often portrayed as a wicked witch. In the original film, Maleficent is responsible for cursing Princess Aurora to fall into a deep sleep on her sixteenth birthday, and can only be awakened by true love’s kiss.
