Kaguya-sama: Love Is War (Japanese: かぐや様は告らせたい～天才たちの恋愛頭脳戦～, Hepburn: Kaguya-sama wa Kokurasetai: Tensai-tachi no Renai Zunōsen) is a Japanese romantic comedy manga series written and illustrated by Aka Akasaka. It has been serialized in Shueisha’s shōnen manga magazine Weekly Young Jump since May 2015, with its chapters collected in twenty-five tankōbon volumes as of February 2023. An anime television series adaptation produced by A-1 Pictures aired in two seasons, with the first season airing from January to March 2019 and the second season airing from April to June 2020. A third season, titled Kaguya-sama: Love Is War Ultra Romantic, premiered in April 2023. A live-action film adaptation was released in September 2019.
The story follows the two most popular students at Shuchiin Academy, Miyuki Shirogane and Kaguya Shinomiya. Miyuki is the student council president and is considered to be the top student in the school. Kaguya is the vice president and is the daughter of a wealthy conglomerate. Although they are attracted to each other, their pride and competitive nature prevent them from admitting their feelings. As a result, they engage in increasingly elaborate mind games in an attempt to make the other confess first.
The series has been praised for its humor, characters, and romantic tension. It has won several awards, including the Kodansha Manga Award for shōnen in 2019.
