The crucifixion of Jesus Christ is a significant event in Christian theology and history. It is described in the New Testament of the Bible, particularly in the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John.

According to the Christian belief, Jesus Christ, who is considered the Son of God and the Savior, was crucified in Jerusalem during the first century AD. The crucifixion is said to have taken place on a Friday, now known as Good Friday, and is an essential part of the Christian narrative of redemption and salvation.

The events leading to Jesus’ crucifixion are commonly referred to as the Passion of Christ. According to the Gospels, Jesus was arrested, tried, and sentenced to death by crucifixion under the order of Pontius Pilate, the Roman governor of Judea at that time. He was accused of blasphemy and claiming to be the King of the Jews, which was seen as a challenge to Roman authority.

After a brutal and painful journey, carrying the cross to Golgotha (also known as Calvary), Jesus was crucified along with two other criminals. During his crucifixion, he was mocked, insulted, and offered sour wine to drink. The Gospels recount several of Jesus’ statements and actions while on the cross, including his forgiveness of those who crucified him and his promise to a repentant criminal that he would be with Jesus in paradise.

According to Christian belief, Jesus’ crucifixion was a sacrificial act, demonstrating his love for humanity and the forgiveness of sins. It is seen as the ultimate act of atonement, through which believers are reconciled with God and granted eternal life.

Easter, the Christian holiday celebrating the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, is observed a few days after Good Friday. The crucifixion and resurrection are central events in Christian theology and are commemorated in various ways by Christians around the world.
