The sacred Imperial Shrine at Ise Jingu has been shrouded in mystery for the last 2000 years. Dedicated to Amaterasu Omikami, the Sun Goddess, it is rebuilt every 20 years as part of the renewal process or Shikinen Sengu. Access to the Inner Shrine is strictly prohibited to all but the high priestess of the Sun Goddess.
