An ice dragon is a mythical creature in various fantasy settings, particularly in the world of George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire book series and the HBO television series Game of Thrones.
In Martin’s books and the show, ice dragons are said to be a rare species of dragon that can breathe ice instead of fire. They are believed to live in the far north beyond the Wall, where they are said to be made of living ice and have blue or white scales. According to legend, ice dragons are much larger than other dragons, and can freeze entire rivers and lakes with their breath.
While ice dragons have not been seen in the main storyline of A Song of Ice and Fire or Game of Thrones, they have been referenced in various contexts, and some characters believe that they could pose a threat to the realm if they were ever to be awakened or unleashed.
Ice dragons have also appeared in other fantasy media, such as the Dungeons & Dragons game and the animated film Ice Dragon: Legend of the Blue Daisies. They are often depicted as fearsome and powerful creatures, capable of freezing their enemies with a single breath and reigning over the icy tundras and mountains where they dwell.
