Hildisvíni is a boar from Norse mythology that is associated with the goddess Freya. According to legend, the boar was a gift from Freya’s father, the god Njord, and was given to her as a symbol of her independence and strength.
Hildisvíni is said to have had magical powers and was able to carry Freya across the sky and through the underworld. The boar was also said to have the ability to locate hidden treasures, and was considered a symbol of fertility and abundance.
In some versions of the myth, Hildisvíni is actually a disguise for Freya’s husband, the god Odin. According to this interpretation, Odin transforms himself into a boar in order to travel to the underworld and learn the secrets of magic from the giantess Mimir.
The image of Freya riding Hildisvíni has become a popular symbol in modern pagan and heathen communities, where it is often associated with the strength and independence of women, as well as with the connection to nature and the spiritual realm.
