Green Lantern is a fictional superhero appearing in comic books published by DC Comics. The character was created by writer Bill Finger and artist Martin Nodell and first appeared in “All-American Comics” #16 in 1940. The Green Lantern concept has since become an important part of the DC Universe and has expanded into various comic book series, adaptations, and media.
The Green Lanterns are members of an intergalactic police force known as the Green Lantern Corps. Each member of the Corps wields a power ring that grants them superpowers, allowing them to create energy constructs based on their willpower. The power rings are one of the most powerful weapons in the DC Universe and are powered by the emotional spectrum, particularly the emotion of willpower. The rings are activated by reciting the oath of the Green Lantern Corps: “In brightest day, in blackest night, no evil shall escape my sight. Let those who worship evil’s might beware my power—Green Lantern’s light!”
The Green Lantern Corps is divided into various sectors of space, with each sector having its own assigned Green Lantern. One of the most well-known Green Lanterns is Hal Jordan, who is often considered the primary Green Lantern of Earth. Other notable Green Lanterns include John Stewart, Guy Gardner, Kyle Rayner, and Jessica Cruz, among others.
The Green Lantern mythos has been explored in various comic book storylines, animated TV shows, movies, and other media. It’s a rich universe filled with cosmic adventures, complex characters, and imaginative storytelling.
