Green Lantern is a comic book superhero created by writer Bill Finger and artist Martin Nodell. The character first appeared in DC Comics’ All-American Comics #16 in July 1940.
The Green Lantern’s real name is Hal Jordan, a test pilot who was chosen by the Guardians of the Universe to be a member of the Green Lantern Corps, an intergalactic police force. The Corps is made up of various beings from across the universe, each equipped with a power ring that allows them to create objects out of pure energy and project them as weapons or tools.
The Green Lantern’s power ring is one of the most powerful weapons in the DC Universe, limited only by the imagination and willpower of its user. The ring is powered by the green light of willpower, and can be used for flight, force fields, energy constructs, and a variety of other abilities.
