Etrigan the Demon, also known simply as Etrigan, is a fictional character from DC Comics. Created by writer-artist Jack Kirby, Etrigan first appeared in “The Demon” #1 in August 1972.

Etrigan is a demon from Hell, and his real name is Jason Blood. In medieval times, Jason Blood was a mortal man who served as a knight to King Arthur. During a battle with the wizard Merlin, Jason was mortally wounded. To save him, Merlin merged Jason’s soul with that of a demon named Etrigan, binding them together for eternity.

As a result of this merging, Jason Blood gained the abilities and powers of Etrigan, becoming a demon with superhuman strength, agility, and regenerative abilities. Etrigan is also capable of breathing fire and has mystical knowledge and powers.

Etrigan is often depicted as a rhyming demon, speaking in poetic verse, which adds a unique and distinctive element to his character. He usually transforms into Etrigan by reciting the rhyme, “Gone, gone the form of man, rise the Demon Etrigan!”

Throughout the years, Etrigan has been a complex character, sometimes portrayed as an anti-hero and at other times as a reluctant villain. Despite his demonic nature, he has occasionally allied with superheroes like Batman, Superman, and the Justice League to combat supernatural threats.

Etrigan has been featured in various comic book series, graphic novels, and animated adaptations, becoming a notable and enduring character in the DC Universe. His dual identity as both Jason Blood and Etrigan the Demon has provided writers with rich storytelling opportunities exploring themes of identity, destiny, and the struggle between good and evil.
