Albert Einstein was a German-born theoretical physicist who developed the theory of relativity, one of the two pillars of modern physics (alongside quantum mechanics). His work is also known for its influence on the philosophy of science.
Einstein is best known to the general public for his mass–energy equivalence formula E = mc2, which has been dubbed “the world’s most famous equation”. He received the 1921 Nobel Prize in Physics “for his services to theoretical physics, and especially for his discovery of the law of the photoelectric effect”, a crucial step in the development of quantum theory.
Einstein is generally considered the most influential physicist of the 20th century and one of the most influential people of the 20th century. His work is also known for its influence on the philosophy of science.
Einstein was born in Ulm, Germany, on March 14, 1879. He was the son of Hermann Einstein, a salesman and engineer, and Pauline Koch. Einstein attended the Luitpold Gymnasium in Munich, but he did not like school and did not do well academically.
In 1895, Einstein left school and moved to Switzerland to study at the Swiss Federal Polytechnic School in Zurich. He graduated in 1900 with a degree in physics.
After graduating, Einstein worked as a patent clerk in Bern, Switzerland. During this time, he developed his theory of special relativity. In 1905, he published four groundbreaking papers that revolutionized physics. These papers included his theory of special relativity, his theory of the photoelectric effect, and his explanation of Brownian motion.
In 1915, Einstein published his theory of general relativity. This theory revolutionized our understanding of gravity and space-time. It is the basis for our understanding of black holes and the Big Bang.
Einstein continued to work on physics until his death in 1955. He was a lifelong pacifist and a strong advocate for social justice. He is considered one of the most important figures of the 20th century.
