Dakotaraptor was a large dromaeosaurid dinosaur that lived in what is now South Dakota during the Late Cretaceous period, about 66 million years ago. It was about 6 meters (20 feet) long and weighed about 700 kilograms (1,500 pounds).
Dakotaraptor was a fast and agile predator. It had a long, slender body with powerful legs and a large, curved claw on each foot. It also had a large head with sharp teeth.

Dakotaraptor was likely a top predator in its ecosystem. It would have preyed on smaller dinosaurs, such as hadrosaurs and ornithomimosaurs. It may have also scavenged on the carcasses of larger dinosaurs.

The remains of Dakotaraptor were first discovered in 2005 in the Hell Creek Formation of South Dakota. The fossils were found by a team of paleontologists led by Robert DePalma.

Dakotaraptor was named in 2015. The name means “Dakota thief”. The specific name, steini, honors the paleontologist Pete Stein.

Dakotaraptor is one of the largest dromaeosaurids known. It is larger than other well-known dromaeosaurids such as Velociraptor and Deinonychus.

Dakotaraptor is an important dinosaur because it helps us to understand the diversity of dromaeosaurids. It also shows that these dinosaurs were much larger than previously thought.
