KonoSuba: God’s Blessing on This Wonderful World! (Japanese: この素晴らしい世界に祝福を!, Hepburn: Kono Subarashii Sekai ni Shukufuku o!) is a Japanese light novel series written by Natsume Akatsuki and illustrated by Kurone Mishima. The series follows Kazuma Satou, a shut-in Japanese high school student who dies in a traffic accident and is reincarnated into a fantasy world by Aqua, a goddess who claims to be the most beautiful and powerful goddess in the world. Kazuma is given the option to choose any one item to bring with him to the fantasy world, and he chooses Aqua, believing that she will be useful in his quest to defeat the Demon King.
The series was first published as a web novel on Shōsetsuka ni Narō between December 2012 and October 2013. The light novel adaptation was published by Kadokawa Shoten under its Kadokawa Sneaker Bunko imprint from October 2013 to May 2020. A manga adaptation by Masahito Watari was serialized in Kadokawa Shoten’s Monthly Shōnen Ace magazine from May 2014 to December 2020. A spin-off manga by Akatsuki and Mishima titled KonoSuba: An Explosion on This Wonderful World! (この素晴らしい世界に爆焔を!, Hepburn: Kono Subarashii Sekai ni Bakuen o!) was serialized in Kadokawa Shoten’s Shōnen Ace R magazine from August 2014 to January 2021.
An anime television series adaptation produced by Studio Deen aired in Japan from January to March 2016. A second season aired from January to March 2017. A third season aired from July to September 2023. Two anime films were also released, Kono Subarashii Sekai ni Shukufuku o! Kurenai Densetsu (2019) and Kono Subarashii Sekai ni Shukufuku o! Kurenai Densetsu: Fujitsubu Hen (2020).
The series has been praised for its humor, characters, and animation. It has been a commercial success, with over 10 million copies of the light novels sold worldwide.
Characters
Kazuma Satou (佐藤 和真, Satō Kazuma)
Kazuma is a shut-in high school student who dies in a traffic accident and is reincarnated into a fantasy world by Aqua.
