Batgirl is a superheroine character in the DC Comics universe. The original Batgirl, Barbara Gordon, was created by writer Gardner Fox and artist Carmine Infantino and first appeared in Detective Comics #359 in January 1967.
Barbara Gordon is the daughter of Gotham City Police Commissioner James Gordon. After seeing Batman in action, she becomes inspired to fight crime and takes on the guise of Batgirl. She is a skilled martial artist and detective, with a photographic memory and expertise in computer science. She uses a variety of gadgets and vehicles to assist in her crime-fighting activities.
Over the years, there have been several versions of Batgirl, with different characters taking on the mantle. In addition to Barbara Gordon, there have been other characters such as Cassandra Cain, Stephanie Brown, and most recently, Barbara Gordon’s protégé, the hacker-turned-vigilante, Harper Row.
Batgirl has been featured in various forms of media, including television shows, video games, and films. She has also been a member of several superhero teams, including the Birds of Prey and the Justice League.
