Bowsette is a fan-made character that gained popularity in September 2018 through the internet phenomenon known as “Bowsette craze” or “Bowsette meme.” Bowsette is essentially a gender-swapped, humanized version of Bowser, the primary antagonist from Nintendo’s Mario franchise. The character was created as a result of a humorous and imaginative interpretation of what might happen if Bowser were to put on the Super Crown, a power-up item introduced in the Nintendo game “New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe” that transforms Toadette into a character resembling Princess Peach.
The concept of Bowsette quickly took off on social media platforms like Twitter and DeviantArt, where artists and fans began creating their own fan art, comics, and fanfiction stories featuring Bowsette. The character’s design typically includes Bowser’s iconic horns, spiky shell, and a dress or outfit resembling Princess Peach’s attire. Bowsette’s popularity even led to the creation of similar “crownified” versions of other Mario characters.
Despite the Bowsette character not being an official Nintendo creation, she became a notable example of fan-generated content and sparked discussions about gender representation and fan creativity in the gaming community. Nintendo has not officially acknowledged or incorporated Bowsette into any of their games or media, but the character remains a memorable and beloved part of internet gaming culture.
