Bowsette (Japanese: クッパ姫, romanized: Kuppa-hime, lit. ‘Princess Koopa’) is a fan-made, moe anthropomorphized and gender-swapped version of the Mario franchise character Bowser, in which he is transformed by the Super Crown power-up to resemble the franchise character Princess Peach.
Bowsette is typically portrayed as a blonde woman with horns, fangs, a spiked collar with matching armbands and a black strapless dress, essentially combining Princess Peach with elements of Bowser’s appearance. The character is often depicted as being seductive and confident, and has gained a significant following among fans of the Mario franchise.
The concept of Bowsette originated in 2018 with the release of New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe, which introduced the Super Crown power-up that can transform any character into a princess. Soon after, fan art depicting Bowser transformed into a princess began to circulate online, and the character quickly gained popularity.
Bowsette’s popularity has been attributed to a number of factors, including her unique appearance, her perceived potential as a character, and the fact that she can be seen as a subversion of traditional gender roles. Some fans have even argued that Bowsette is a more interesting and appealing character than Princess Peach herself.
The character has been met with both positive and negative reactions from fans and critics. Some have praised her for being a bold and original creation, while others have criticized her for being sexualized and for promoting gender stereotypes.
Despite the controversy, Bowsette has become a significant part of the Mario franchise’s online fandom, and she is likely to continue to be a popular subject of fan art, cosplay, and fanfiction for many years to come.
